Seattle Weekend

Otherwise titled: How to rock Seattle in less than 24 hours.

Before NavyGuy’s deployment slid, we had planned to fit in a super quick visit with my college roomie Sketch, and her hubby Dr. Beer.  We’ve discussed these two knuckleheads before – they live in Portland, he’s a beer brewing superstar for a trendy pub, she lures unsuspecting high schoolers to a private college (in her capacity as assistant director of admissions), and oh yeah – Sketch introduced NavyGuy and I almost 10 years ago.  So, she always gets the credit (and blame) for us.

Anyhoo, we had planned this visit with them, and decided it’d be silly to cancel just because the Navy can’t keep to a schedule.  I had to work until 6 on Saturday, so NavyGuy picked me up at Target, and we met up with the Sketches in downtown Seattle for 18 hours of crazy good fun…

The Sketches at Wild Ginger, where we feasted on Asian tapas and mango mojitos.  Then we met up with a few Navy friends at a comedy club.  The talent was dubious, but it wasn’t a total loss.

Starbucks in the hotel room!!!  So very Seattle.  We stayed at the Westin downtown, which I highly recommend.  Very nice bathroom soaps.

The next morning, we had brunch at The Dahlia Lounge, then explored the Fremont neighborhood, with fun little shops and a great outdoor/indoor farmer’s market that terrified NavyGuy with all the hippie-ness.

We couldn’t pass up a chance to make NavyGuy pose awkwardly by this outdoor french fry “sculpture.”

Dr. Beer knew of a beer festival of sorts going on at a brewery in the neighborhood, so we partook in a beer tasting with a professional.  I wasn’t much of a fan of the beers, but holy lord were the fries good!  Salty and seasoned and with yummy dips.

It’s almost shocking how we haven’t aged a bit in 10 years… 😉  We had a fabulous weekend with them, and are planning to visit them in their new house in Portland sometime next month!
